POLITICS - I Want To Be Peace Barbie

Social Design Notes has a great little piece about Japan's plan to send 1000 troops to Iraq. When the US helped rebuild Japan after WWII, the new Constitution renounced war forever. The military is a Self Defense Force (SDF) aimed at keeping the peace, hence the cute little Peace People Japan logo. Since WWII, no Japanese soldier has killed or been killed. The Constitution has been amended to allow "pre-emptive strikes", but what effect will this or the troops in Iraq have on the people of Japan?

Could you imagine a world where the US military promoted peace on its letterhead and advertising campaigns?
